Mission

The Mission Statement for the Round Rock ISD Electrical Department is to safely provide reliable, quality services to students, staff and community by providing qualified, courteous employees to satisfy customer’s needs and request.

Electrical Department Function

The Round Rock ISD Electrical Departments primary function is to maintain and repair the electrical systems with-in our facilities from a work order based system. Work orders are received and prioritized in three basic categories.

  • Safety: Work orders affecting students, staff and facilities receive immediate attention.
  • Electrical Interruptions: Once an outage call has been received maintenance personnel is dispatched to the campus to determine cause of outage, if found to be related to the electrical utility provider, the supplier is notified immediately and campus is given estimated time of restoral. Work orders reporting isolated outages involving branch circuits are responded to with-in 24-48 working hours.
  • Repairs and installs affecting the learning environment.

In addition to daily work order activities the Electrical Department performs preventive maintenance related task.

  • Exterior Lighting: Preventive maintenance is performed annually on parking lot lights during the summer were faulty lamps and ballast are replaced. Pole bases are checked for rust and nuts are checked for tightness once every two years. Security lighting is inspected during the fall months.
  • Sports Fields: Before the start of each athletic season the Electrical Dept. inspects and repairs field lighting and ensures equipment is in proper operating condition for the up coming season.
  • Electrical Distribution: Non-intrusive infrared scanning is performed during the winter months when electrical load is highest to determine if damaging heat signature is present. If required, repairs are made immediately. If the infraction is not severe the facility will be scheduled for an outage during non-school days, at this time the electrical distribution system will be inspected, labeled, cleaned and repaired to eliminate problems affecting the learning environment.

History

The General Maintenance Division maintains the facility structure including: wall repair, floor repair, ceiling repair, lamp replacement, light fixture repairs, mold abatement, cabinet/shelving repairs, bathroom partition repairs, roof repairs/replacement, gutter/downspout repairs, glass repairs, and fixture installs (White boards, chalk boards, pencil sharpeners, bathroom dispensers, etc.).

Freeze Protection Procedures

The Maintenance Department is responsible for ensuring that the buildings are protected from any problems regarding extreme cold conditions. Although it is common knowledge that materials and equipment do fail from such extreme weather conditions, the department is committed to maintain a process that will keep such conditions to exist at an acceptable level, should it occur, and allow the district to continue its educational process.

Grounds Division

The mission of the Grounds Division is to effectively plan, evaluate, manage and maintain the grounds to all campuses and supporting facilities by identifying both long and short-term maintenance and renewal needs through a well-trained and equipped staff that satisfies customers.

Good site maintenance will increase the safety and security of the facility and its occupants.

In addition to the grounds appearance the Grounds Division is also responsible for curb painting, playgrounds, walking tracks, coordination of the freeze protection program, IPM Pest Control, athletic fields, tree trimming, vehicle fleet maintenance, retention pond maintenance, mowing equipment maintenance, asphalt repairs, signage, seal coating, concrete repairs, ADA compliance, drive and sidewalk drainage repairs, fencing, wind screens, PTA assistance and welding.

Hardware Division

The mission of the Hardware Division is to maintain a safe and secure learning environment for students and teachers by maintaining locks on interior and exterior doors.

Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain the function of locking devices, including exterior and interior doors, locks, panic devices, smoke doors, security gates, coiling doors, file cabinets, casework, pneumatic door closers, computer locks, re-key door locks, set up key schedules for new buildings and existing building re-keys, and maintain computerized records of master keyed systems.

HVAC Division

The HVAC Department’s mission is to safely maintain and repair all climate control systems for all students, teachers and community through the use of an internally developoed preventive maintenance and repair program constantly monitored for efficient performance thru the collection of data.

Basic Functions and Responsibilities

  • Service and repair heating, cooling and ventilation equipment
  • Respond to and correct Air Quality concerns
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate chemical levels for cooling towers
  • Maintain and repair as needed cooling towers and associated pumps and compressors

The Round Rock Independent School District’s HVAC Division primary function is to maintain and repair the HVAC equipment within facilities from a work order based system. Work orders are received and prioritized in three basic categories.

  • HVAC interruptions and safety
  • Responds to interruptions due to equipment failure
  • Perform preventative maintenance to maintain the integrity of the HVAC program

In addition to daily work order activities the HVAC Division performs preventive maintenance related task.

  • Annual checks and repairs of heating/cooling equipment
  • Annual check and repair of exhaust fans/ventilation systems
  • Semi-Annual checks and oil changed of pneumatic air compressors
  • Annual lube change of cooling tower gear drives
  • Semi-Annual cleaning of cooling towers
  • Rodding out condenser bundles on district chillers

Irrigation Division Mission Statement
Effectively maintain all irrigation systems in the Round Rock Independent School District to ensure safe and effective school operations.

Irrigation Division Duties
The Irrigation Division maintains the lawn sprinkler systems on all athletic fields and campus grounds. The department consists of two experienced irrigation specialists and temporary help in the summer months.

History

The Plumbing Department currently maintains the water, sewer and gas systems in the district. This includes all restrooms, locker rooms, kitchens, irrigation systems and athletic facilities. Through contract services the Plumbing Department is responsible for annual fire hydrant testing and gas line testing, grease trap maintenance and sewage lift station P.M.s. Included is backflow preventer testing and repair and cross connection control to ensure a pure and quality potable water supply to the facilities.

PM Division Mission Statement
To safely repair and maintain building structures and systems, with as little disruption to schools and students as possible.

PM Division Duties

Hours: Monday thru Thursday 1:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. (General Maintenance, HVAC PM, Impact Team and Painting)

  • HVAC – Preventive maintenance and repairs are done to the District’s HVAC systems; Essential service to keep units operating longer and needing less mechanical repairs.
  • General Maintenance – Perform repairs to school facilities that cannot be done during scheduled class times to avoid interruption to learning environment; act as first responders to after hours and emergency calls.
  • Painting – Maintain the appearances of the District buildings, complete indoor and outdoor painting.
  • Impact Team – Carpenters and painter repair and construct structural walls to District buildings. Able to perform projects that can avoid the need to use outside contractors.

  • Campus disruptions and safety
  • Repairs directly effecting campus functions and safety
  • Repairs that may effect campus safety and functions if not completed

Special Systems assigns code compliance inspections and testing, as well as systems PM’s to each campus on a quarterly rotation.
